Hody/Potalo Dictionary of Phrases

TAEZ6793Mal (that would be Mr. Potalo) and I (a.k.a. Hody Pody) have come up with pretty much a whole system of words and phrases. We often use incorrect spelling while texting each other, and we say things in a way that sounds like we’re three years old sometimes, but that’s us and it’s fun. xD

I decided to write up a list of some of the recent words we’ve either invented or use often (sometimes out of the proper context), so you can join in on the fun! So, without further ado, here is the Hody/Potalo Dictionary of Commonly Used Words and Phrases!

Wo – a statement meaning “Whoa,” giving the impression of amazement or pride

Okay, so I might not win an award for the best dictionary ever, but this is just for fun so enjoy! And who knows, I might have some more words to add in the future. ;D

Do you use any of these words or phrases? What are some words or phrases that you commonly use either out of context or that most people don’t use much? Come on, let me in on some of your fancy words!

Things you might want to know before you message me

I’ve been updating some of my pages recently and I found this, which I wrote a few years ago on an online horse game I still occasionally check up on. I wrote it as a joke, but it mostly holds true even now. xD

– I am usually very friendly and love making new friends. It doesn’t matter how old you are. Of course it’s always nice to have friends your own age, but I won’t refuse to talk to someone just because they are under 18, or 13, or 10. Age isn’t of importance. What is of importance is that we share at least one thing in common: a love of all things horses. xD
– I am very shy in real life; on here, however, I am usually either too quiet or too talkative. Don’t be surprised if I respond to your one-line message with 20 paragraphs, all on the same subject. :3
– I tend to use way too many smilies, so I tend to try to cut back…but I feel rude when I do, soo…xD
– I hate it when people lie about themselves. If you don’t own a horse, that’s cool! It doesn’t make you any less of a person than if you did.
– I don’t trust easily.
– I usually use proper grammar and punctuation. I write very formally until I get to know a person a bit better; then I tend to use a ton of ‘lol’s and ‘haha’s.
– I am crazy and awesome, but aren’t we all. xD
– I always worry about offending people. If I ever offend you, tell me because I didn’t mean to, I promise. xD
– I do not give out personal information online, I don’t care who you are. There are very few people on here I would even consider giving out information to, my very good forum friends, and I can’t even give that information to them, so anyone else doesn’t stand a chance. xD
– As you can probably tell, ‘xD’ is my favourite face thing. So if you see a lot of ‘xD’s in my message,…sorry. xD

Who Am I?

Who am I? Call me crazy, but I was trying to figure that out this morning. Am I still the quiet horse girl I was years ago? The one who used to ride for hours every day and do every crazy thing she could think of with her horse? The homeschooled kid who made stupid funny videos with her brother and went exploring every day?

The answer is, yes. I’m still that girl. I haven’t changed, I’ve just grown in more way than one. I’m trying to figure out this crazy thing called life, but in the process I’ve never been anyone else. I’ve always been me.

So who am I? I’m a horseback rider, a liberty horse trainer, a photographer, a videographer, an explorer, a race car driver, a zombie killer, a singer, a writer, a blogger, a guitarist, a sarcastic nut, a math lover, a rock climber, a skier, a snowboarder, a four wheeler driver, a homeschooler, a computer nerd, a cashier, a Christian, a country girl, a Canadian, a sister, a daughter, a friend. In some way, I’m all of those things, but I’m a lot more than that too. I’m proud of who I am and who I’m going to become. Maybe in a few years, I’ll be even more things. I can’t say that I can’t wait to get there though; because for now, I’m happy where I am. I’m enjoying the ride.

As I sit in the barn writing this, I can see the warm rays of sunshine out the door. I can feel the warmth on the bare skin of my hands. My hair is still wet from my shower, but it hasn’t frozen. I can hear the soft sounds of the horses munching on their hay. It’s peaceful and quiet. I’m standing here, leaning against the wall facing Destiny’s stall. It brings back so many memories. But now I know that they’re not JUST memories. They’re the future too. There is still a lot of fun to be had, and I know there’s going to be a lot more great times there.

Accomplishments of 2016

I know I’m a bit late, but — Happy New Year! 2016 was a great year for me; I did a lot of new, fun things and learned a lot about myself. I’m looking forward to seeing what stupid stuff and crazy ideas I’ll get myself into in 2017!

Things I’ve been thankful for this holiday season

Here is a list of just a few things I’ve been thankful for this holiday season. I meant to post this earlier, but didn’t get around to it. But it’s better late than never, I suppose. :)

my amazing family – my friends – snow – my country home – fun in the country – my job and the people who make it all worth it – my laptop – the amazing families I’ve formed online – my blog – music – the sun – slight breezes – my horse, her fluffy coat, and warm breath – my lovely, wonderful barn – warm sweaters – my church family – good food – jokes and laughs – seeing my breath – my perfect car – car exhaust on a cold day – my guitar – fires and fireplaces, even fake ones – TV shows and xBoxes and netflix – rewatching shows I used to love when I was a kid – having money to spend – warm blankets on a cold winter night

What are some things you’ve been thankful for this holiday season? Let me know in the comments below!

You know you spend a lot of time on your computer when

Hey guys! I’ve been trying to survive the heat for the last few days. I may live in Canada, but hot is still hot. This reminds me of a time 2 years ago when we had a “level 1” heat warning and we were all excited about it. IMG_9153We still have no idea what that means. xD Well, no heat warning today, but it sure is hot!

I’ve been spending a lot of time on my laptop lately. Now that I have my pinterest back, I’ve been on a hunt for the best fudge recipes I can find. Time to try some of those out! I’ve also been working on reducing my list of “songs to get” (another of the 21 Things I Want to Do Before I Turn 21), which I have been adding to for the last 6 or so years. I don’t even remember half of the songs, and many of them I don’t care about anymore. I’ve been cleaning up that list, keeping only the songs I really want. It’s a long process though…a lot of songs have made their way onto that list over the years! That means even more time spent on the computer, searching for various songs on YouTube so I can decide whether I still want to get them. So this topic seemed fitting! I actually compiled this list years ago, but I made a few recent additions as well.

You know you spend a lot of time on your computer when:

  1. You yell “LOL” when something funny happens.
  2. You can type 120 wpm with two fingers.
  3. You sometimes speak in text speak, to the point where normal people can’t understand you.
  4. You refer to “clicking” the timer button on the oven.
  5. You have intelligent discussions over whether the plural of mouse is mouses or mice.
  6. You know the answer to every problem is “turn it off, wait 5 minutes, turn it back on.”
  7. You know the difference between the processor and RAM and the function of each.
  8. You’ve said “Internet” so many times that now it comes out as “innernet” whether you want it to or not.
  9. Your worst nightmare is forgetting your password. But it happens all the time. “Which of my 15 variations of password did I use for my email? Is it the same as facebook? Or maybe I needed to use uppercase letters in it…?”
  10. When you can’t think of the answer, you yell, “Google it!”
  11. You’re always telling your family what crazy thing your friend who you’ve never actually met said today.
  12. You see something underlined on a sheet of paper and poke it with your finger to see what will come up.
  13. You try to zoom in on a piece of paper.
  14. You don’t understand how your grandmother doesn’t know where the Enter key is–or that some people don’t even know what it is.
  15. You laugh when people call your monitor a computer.
  16. Your computer isn’t just a computer. It’s the weather, your calculator, your recipes, your pictures, a way of writing notes where you’ll remember to check them, a method of communication, etc.
  17. If you don’t know how to do something, you know that the Internet will have the answer.
  18. You speak to it as if it’s a living thing. “Why would you just randomly close that page!? I was looking at that!!!”

Do you do anything on this list? Are you addicted to your computer? Would you add anything to this list? Let me know in the comments! :)

The Sunshine Award

Thank you to Leah from Life as a Homeschooled Teen for nominating me for the Sunshine Award! It took me a while to get around to doing this but I’ve had quite a busy week!

The Rulesaward31-1

  • Thank & link the person who nominated you.
  • Answer the questions asked by them.
  • Nominate 11 bloggers.
  • Give your nominees 11 new questions to answer.

My Answers

  1. If you could do anything right now, what would you be doing?
I would be hiking into the Grand Canyon! I went to Arizona with my family last year and that’s one thing I really want to do someday.
  2. If you could be any animal, what animal would you be?
I would definitely be a horse. I’m already half horse, so it wouldn’t be so big a stretch. ;)
  3. What do you like most about blogging?
I love that, by blogging, I’m always learning something new about myself and pushing myself to be the best version of myself that I can be. It lets me see myself as others probably see me, and I think it’s really interesting.
  4. What is your favorite quote?
“In riding a horse, we borrow freedom.” -Unknown
  5. What is your favorite day of the year?
I don’t really have a favourite day of the year, but if I had to choose, it would probably be October 5. :)
  6. What is one book that you would recommend to others?
I really liked the Divergent series. I know that’s not one book, but I haven’t read much besides series recently!
  7. Coffee or Tea?
Neither one. Caffeine and I are not a good mix.
  8. If you could only travel by sea or by air, which would you pick?
Hmmm, that’s a tough one. I guess I would have to choose air. There’s something surprisingly fun about flying. (Even though I, yes, was the one who refused to get on an airplane until last year when I finally did).
  9. What type of music do you listen to the most?
Mostly pop, but I listen to a little bit of everything.
  10. Do you have any hidden talents?
I learn surprisingly fast. Oh, and I’m really good at math, especially calculus.
  11. Do you have any plans for the summer?
I have a few things planned. ;) I’m going on my usual weekend August trip, and in June I’m hoping to go to the USA.

I Nominate:

  1. The Shameful Sheep
  2. Charlii and Meg
  3. The World According to an Introvert
  4. Mixolydian Musings

I don’t know who else to nominate who hasn’t already been nominated, so if you want to be nominated, comment and I’ll add you, or just go ahead and do it. :) And if you don’t want to do it, that’s okay too.

My Questions for you:

  1. If you were to learn a new language, which one would you choose?
  2. What’s your favourite dessert?
  3. Computer or laptop?
  4. Where is your “happy place”?
  5. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?
  6. What was the last movie you watched? Did you like it?
  7. Describe your dream vacation in one sentence.
  8. What are your plans for the summer?
  9. What is your favourite colour?
  10. What is something really stupid that you’ve done in your life?
  11. What is something that not many people know about you?

Good luck and have fun! :)

21 Things I Want to Do Before I Turn 21

I’ve compiled a list of 21 things I would like to accomplish before I turn 21. These aren’t anything really crazy or big, just some pretty simple things that I really would like to do someday…so why not this year? (: I’m going to see how many I can do in the next year.

I encourage anyone who wants to do so, to make a list of some simple things you would like to accomplish in a year, or longer if you prefer. It doesn’t have to be before your next birthday; it can be by the end of the year, by the end of a chosen month, whatever you want. Maybe choose some things you’ve always wanted to do but never got the chance. It helps if it’s a one-time thing though; that way, you won’t be tempted to give up on it in a week (“try something new” as opposed to “stop being afraid to try new things” is an example). AND it should be fun!

So, here are my 21 things I want to do before I turn 21.

  1. Learn to drive a standard car.
  2. Shoot a real gun (yeah, probably not gonna happen, but it would be fun).
  3. Win a game of Crokinole against my parents (grrr).
  4. Go on a really long (or overnight) four wheeling trip.
  5. Buy a plaid shirt (a friend insisted).
  6. Ride Destiny on the beach.
  7. Do a wheelie on a bicycle (it’s not as easy as it looks..).
  8. Prestige on Call of Duty: Black Ops III and then gloat to my brother. “Guess what level I’m on? Level ONE!!!”
  9. Learn to play some songs (“Back in Black”, for starters) on my guitar.
  10. Finish the seasons of Pretty Little Liars that are on Netflix.
  11. Raid all stores the day after Easter and buy all their chocolate!!!
  12. Drive a motorcycle (yeah, also probably not gonna happen, but ya never know).
  13. Fill up my 2014 graduation photo album with pictures from my graduation and 2014.
  14. Re-watch Friends.
  15. Get more songs (and go through my list of ‘songs to get’ to weed out the ones I no longer care about).
  16. Go on another EPIC camping trip.
  17. Take Molly for a trail ride.
  18. Do something fun that scares me…like go on some crazy ride or something.
  19. Finish the Vampire Academy book series.
  20. Get better at barre chords so I can incorporate at least one into a song.
  21. Road trip!!!

If I do even half of these things, it’s gonna be a good year! I’ll try to post some updates about how these are going, to let you guys know. (: Thanks for reading!

50 Things To Do Before You Turn 20

(Photo courtesy of my aunt, edited by me)

So, I recently turned 20. Yes, I know, I’m old now. Maybe soon my butt will start to sag! xD

Anyway, I made a list of things I did in the last 20 years…mostly just stupid little things that I remember well enough that made me laugh, or things that I can’t believe I actually accomplished that I’m proud of. Because, why not? Think of all the things one can do in 20 years! I’ve done a lot of crazy stuff over the years…here are some I’m hoping might make you laugh. (:

50 Things I Did Before I Turned 20

  1. Ride a horse bareback and bridleless
  2. Do donuts with a four wheeler
  3. Crawl across a droopy tree branch to cross a river (or be like my brother, lose your balance, and fall in)
  4. Ski down a double black diamond trail (I didn’t run into any trees either! My brother did though…hehehe)
  5. Learn to snowboard (I got lots of experience in falling too!)
  6. Slam on the front brakes on your bicycle so you flip it and go flying over the handlebars (I was trying to do a burnout and forgot which brake was which. I thought I had it right..)
  7. Go extreme sledding over jumps! (Don’t use a crazy carpet…just don’t. Unless you’re wearing clothes made out of bubble wrap)
  8. Poke a cactus
  9. Jump on a trampoline with 50 or more water balloons
  10. Jump off a 50+ meter cliff into water
  11. Slide down a 10-meter rock yelling “NOODLES” just because you can. (I suggest you don’t do this. Not only will it hurt, a lot, but your friends will probably question your sanity)
  12. Learn every single Lazy Town song with your best friend (we were interesting kids..lol).
  13. Enjoy math. o_o (I like calculus…NO! NO! I refuse to enjoy a math!!!)
  14. Learn (or at least start learning) to play electric guitar (or another musical instrument). But first, practice playing your AIR GUITAR ‘cuz you know you’re really good at that!
  15. Learn (some) HTML
  16. Go to a different country (ARIZONA OH YESH!! oh wait that’s not a country. HELLO USA! WHERE ARE ALL YOUR PALM TREES, MAINE!?)
  17. Climb scaffolding with a broken hand because your boss can’t figure out how to use your cell phone to take a picture, so you start climbing up before she can stop you. xD (Okay, I also suggest you don’t do this one. Especially the part about breaking your hand. Just..don’t, ohkay?)
  18. Make an (or several) online friend(s) and (try to) keep in contact with them, even 5 years later. You guys in Sadie’s forum are THE BEST!
  19. Drive a 1000cc four wheeler =o <3
  20. Drive with a trailer (I still remember when my mom was learning to reverse with a trailer; it took her about 10 minutes to reverse 10 meters to the turnoff she missed on an isolated dirt road. Then some guy was chilling on the side of that road in his truck and grimly gave her a thumbs up. BEST DAY EVER! I was very careful not to drive past that turnoff when I had the trailer…)
  21. Ride on a ‘redneck tiltawhirl’ (not a good idea if you get motion sickness)
  22. Run as fast as you can until you can’t possibly continue any longer
  23. Do a chin-up (or a pull-up. Or both)
  24. Learn a new language (I learned some German last year in university, and it was actually really fun!)
  25. Bike down stairs
  26. Look stupid while playing on the Wii (I always bowled with the remote control pointed toward the wall, 90 degrees from the TV screen. And yes, I got a strike almost every time. My brother hated me.)
  27. Throw a basketball and get it in the net BACKWARDS. Then watch your brother fail every time. ^^
  28. Do a perfect handstand for several seconds.
  29. Roast marshmallows over a candle
  30. Star tip
  31. Do a slam dunk (even if that means climbing the basketball net)
  32. Make a horsehair bracelet from your horse’s mane/tail and wear it everywhere <3
  33. Dip a Dorito in chocolate and eat it
  34. Jump off a roof (into snow. I’m not crazy!!)
  35. Eat 12 cookies in a day (where’d all my cookies go!?)
  36. Slip and fall on ice 3 times or more in one day
  37. Pull an all-nighter and drink lots of Mountain Dew until you get very dizzy and lose the ability to can (and believe me, when you get to that point, you will actually understand what it means to ‘lose the ability to can’)
  38. Wear your sunglasses at night
  39. Shoot a snowman in the head with an arrow
  40. Carry someone on your shoulders
  41. Slide down the rail of a flight of stairs
  42. Ride your bike with no hands
  43. Try out a cool skateboard trick (and possibly fail, if you are like me and cannot even stand on a skateboard without falling)
  44. Do donuts with a horse
  45. Plank on a horse
  46. Flap your brother’s bird (that sounds so wrong)
  47. Have a ‘conversation’ with strangers from miles away with lights in the dark (if only I knew morse code!)
  48. Gallop with a horse
  49. Go camping in a tent for at least 3 days
  50. Wash your hands in an outhouse with the scented thingie in a urinal (thanks Mom. That was NOT a sink, and that was NOT soap in it)

While I was making this list, I watched back a lot of old videos my brother and I made. It’s hilarious to look back at all the crazy, stupid stuff we used to do. But they’re such good memories, and I think it’s really important to have fun like that when you’re young. ‘Cuz, you know, now I’m 20 so I don’t have any more excuses for doing crazy, stupid stuff. (Don’t worry, I’ll continue to do crazy, stupid stuff anyway. Some things never change)

I’m now working on a list of things I’m hoping to do before I turn 21, hoping to post it in the next few days!
