To the lady who helped me with my bags tonight,

After working 8 hours, I was ready to go home, but I had some groceries I wanted to pick up first. After putting everything on the counter, I made a split-second decision to return my cart, opting to carry all of my bags instead. I hadn’t realized quite how much I was buying, so I was struggling to gather all the bags together.

You kindly stepped up and offered to help me carry some of the bags to my car. I declined, seeing as my car was parked further away than I would like to ask someone like yourself to walk (since I am an employee and the parking lot is small, I’m expected to park in the next one over). I knew I could take a cart, but I was too stubborn. You then proceeded to help me, looping the bag handles over my fingers so I could hold onto all of the bags. You asked me again if I would like help carrying the bags to my car, but I declined again, a little embarrassed about all the hassle.

I’m sorry if I didn’t talk much, but I was a bit distracted by the situation; and the bags of milk on one arm were really heavy and I was trying not to show it. I made sure to thank you, but I didn’t get to say all I wanted to, so I am going to say it now. You probably won’t read this, but if you do, I want to say thank you so much for your kindness. I really appreciate your help in gathering together my bags and your offer to help me carry it to my car. So many people are in such a hurry to go nowhere, but not you. You stopped, patiently helped me, and made sure I was all right. For that, I am very grateful. You might not know this, but I was feeling a bit sick today and I was kind of sad because of it. When you helped me, not only did you help me in that moment, but you also brightened my day and helped me feel optimistic and hopeful. And for that, I think I am going to be that much happier going into work tomorrow morning. Thank you for your kindness.
